I am a frequent flyer, globetrotting kid, so I have become an expert packer. My very first piece of advice would be to find a backpack that you can carry on your own. The grownups are already stressed out by the trip, so they are always annoyed when you ask them to carry your stuff. I always like to mix fashion with practicality, so behold my favorite carry-on…wide, adjustable shoulder straps, in pink.

My Favorite Carry-On

Here is my all inclusive “fly away” list:

  • Passport: fashionable cover included!
  • iPad: I can’t wait for on board Wi-Fi! Till then, I stick to my apps and movies.
  • A book: the no Wi-Fi on board definitely comes with its advantages, I get to catch on my reading. I prefer old time favorites like Mary Poppins.
  • Tissues: it happened to me so many times already that I sneezed and ended up with all sorts of surprises coming out of my nose, that I am taking no more chances.
  • Hand sanitizers: oh, those airplane bathrooms, those airplane seats, that lady sitting next to you who keeps talking and you can totally see the spit flying in all directions.
  • A healthy snack: and by that I mean apple slices, chocolate, and Oreos. Don’t judge, a girl needs her sugar while surviving offline for more than a couple of hours.
  • Chinese calligraphy notebook: this one might surprise you, but I find it awesomely relaxing to practice my Mandarin characters at 10,000 ft; but more on this topic, later.
